Microsoft Excel - Problem Solving, Tricks and Tips and Help Line

Hi All,

I would like to start a blog concerning Microsoft Excel as everyone of us needs skills in this program. I would hope everyone to contribute in this blog by posting your own tricks, or problem that we can help solve.

Let me start with VLOOKUP with multiple criteria which is related to the topic discussed in the seminar IMA Dubai conducted in Sharjah last 26th September 2015 (PowerPivot, last part of the discussion where we used concatenate to create a calculated field as EventID).

In the sample linked (Excel Tutorials - VLOOKUP with Multiple Criteria), you will use VLOOKUP to look for the asset name using Business Segment number and Asset ID as criteria. You can apply this solution for other situations just like in the seminar on PowerPivot where we looked for the host city using year and season as criteria.

If you have other tricks and tips to share, feel free to post a reply. If you have a problem with Excel, feel free to ask for help. We do believe that everything is possible in Excel. The only limitation is our imagination.

Next topic (still under construction) - Using the function Spellnumber (a new function created using a macro) to spell out numbers into words. This is useful for printing out invoices/checks using excel and the amount should be spelled out in words. My old company prints out invoices not from system but in excel (imagine that!). The codes which I found in the internet worked well. I converted that to an Add-in so the user can just add the function in Excel and use it as designed. The function also worked for spelling out the numbers in Portuguese (another set of codes). Invoices issued for another business unit of the company were in Portuguese, that's why the need for the macro.
Thanks for following the thread. I will post the tutorial in the coming weekend and will also post the Add-in Macro for everyone.
If you have some difficulties with Excel, don't hesitate to post. Everyone is here to help.
