Dubai Chapter Mentoring Program

INTRODUCTION

The mentorship committee at the IMA Dubai Chapter is committed to design and deliver a mentoring experience to the IMA members. This will engage mentees who are eager to gain from the experience and insight of mentors and find it valuable for their professional development. Mentors will have the opportunity to develop their leadership and interpersonal skills and reflect on their own practice.

  PROGRAM FRAMEWORK HIGHLIGHTS

  1. The IMA Dubai Chapter Mentorship program would be open from December to April each year (5 months). The aim is to keep it flexible for the mentors and mentees to connect within this timeframe.
  2. Mentor profiles would be finalized very September and put online on the IMA Dubai Chapter Mentoring page
  3. Mentee Applications would be collected before November.
  4. Mentor & Mentee finalizations would be by mid-November.
  5. Trainings and guidance sessions would be conducted online in the month of November.
  6. Mentor Mentee sessions would go on during the months of December to April every year.
  7. Mentees would need to fill in online log for the organizers to know that sessions are going on well.
  8.  Any issues arising during the course would be handled on case to case basis.
  9. Feedback would be collected from both mentors and mentees, at the end of their session, through online forms.
  10. Felicitations for mentors and opportunity for mentees to present their experiences would be provided to participants at the physical event coming up between May and June every year.

REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The relationship between Mentor and Mentee is Mentee-centred.
The Mentor’s role is to encourage the development of the Mentee.

CONFIDENTIALITY

For a successful mentor-mentee relationship, any sensitive information exchanged between the parties must be kept confidential. In case of any concerns expressed by any party, either have the option to raise concern about the procedure or policy.

 Mentors Requirements

  • IMA Member in good standing.
  • Strong industry knowledge.
  • Relevant professional experience.
  • Established personal values, goals, and initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and lead.
  • Desire to share.
  • Willingness to listen, advise, support, and promote others.
  • Punctual and consistent.
  • A good listener and able to empathize with the needs of the mentee.

 Mentee Requirements

  • IMA Member in good standing.
  • Communicate clearly and honestly.
  • Provide information, knowledge to aid the Mentor with advice and support..
  • Cooperate with the Mentor with schedules.
  • Doesn't expect their Mentor to give them all the answers.

 Mentor Responsibilities

  A Mentor shall support the Mentee by:

  • Offering advice and guidance with their career thinking.
  • Developing understanding, skills and support with problem-solving.
  • Providing an insight into work and career.
  • Assisting in practical tips on planning a successful job strategy.
  • Encouraging reflection on oneself for personal development.
  • Identifying areas for development and improving self-confidence.
  • Provide a psychologically safe space by ensuring their mentee that everything that they'll discuss will be confidential.

 Mentee Responsibilities

  The Mentee shall drive the relationship with their mentor  and communicate their personal and professional goals and related concerns regarding achieving growth.

  • Mutually agree and maintain meeting schedules.
  • Drive the relationship and conversation.
  • Maintain minutes of all the meetings with the mentor.
  • Act upon the advice of the Mentor.
  • Seek and act on feedback from the Mentor.
  • Keeps Mentor informed of their work progress and achievements, so they have as much context as possible.
